GOOGLE DOODLE CELEBRATES 372nd BIRTHDAY OF THIS GREAT MATHEMATICIAN
Today on July 1st, Google doodle is celebrating 372nd birthday of a great mathematician Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, son of Friedrich Leibniz and Catharina Schmurk, was a German polymath and a philosopher who occupies a prominent place in the history in field of Mathematics and Philosophy as well.
Leibniz was born on July 1st, 1646, at Leipzig. In his childhood, he got educated from the Nicolai School but moreover he got his own lessons in the library of his father, who had died in 1652. In 1661, he enrolled the University of Leipzig as a law student. After completing his legal studies in 1666, Leibniz then after applied for the doctorate of law. He was refused because of his young age so left his city forever. His most notable achievement was the idea of differential and integral calculus independently. Sir Isaac Newton’s conventional expression of calculus became of no use over Leibniz notation.
HIS CONTRIBUTIONS FOR MATHEMATICS:-
Further in the 20th Century Leibniz found mathematical standards or specification for his LAW OF CONTINUITY and TRANSCENDENTAL LAW OF HOMOGENEITY. He further gave his most in the invention of MECHANICAL CALCULATOR. PINWHEEL CALCULATOR in 1685 and LEIBNIZ WHEEL, used in the ARITHMOMETER are also his valuable inventions. His work in binary number system gave all the way for digital computers.
HIS CONTRIBUTIONS IN PHILOSOPHY:-
Everyone remembers Leibniz for his optimism. Other great poets also follow his ideas towards the universe and our world.
SOME OF HIS GREAT SAYINGS:-
- This world is the best of all possible worlds.
- He who has not tasted bitter things hasn’t earned sweet things.
- The present is big then the future.
- There is nothing in the understanding which has not come from the senses, except the understanding itself, or the one who understands.
- Music is the hidden arithmetical exercise of an unconscious mind which it is calculating.
LEIBNIZ OTHER MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS:-
Leibniz also had his major contribution to Physics, other technologies, anticipated notions, probability theory, medicine, biology, the study of earth, folk psychology, the scientific study of languages and Computer Science. His other works on philosophy, Politics, Law, Ethics, theology, History and Philology etc. had given the world a much more to look and think over thinks in a new and a different way.
