ABOUT 65% YOUTHS START SMOKING TO LOOK COOL DURING THEIR GRADUATION
According to a survey, 20 percent of teenagers pick up a cigarette during their education period. Twenty-three percent of the students picked up smoking, considering it as a means of enjoyment and 59% smoke just to show off. An eleven-year-old boy when found smoking was asked for the reason of smoking. The reason came out to look cool. Does cigarette really make you cool? Well, it might make you cool in front of your friends but it affects teenagers health and life at a tremendous level.
WHY DO TEENAGERS SMOKE?
ADDICTION OF SMOKING
By the age of twenty, it was estimated that sixty-nine per cent of teenagers definitely starts smoking and became addicted to smoking. This addiction does not stop here only. It increases day by day. Smoking starts with one cigarette a day, then to two or three cigarettes a day and then to a full pack of cigarettes a day. And it didn’t stop here too after cigarettes, it goes to drugs, heroin, alcohol and many more bad products.
WHAT MAKES THEM ADDICTIVE
Cigarettes contain Nicotine in it. Nicotine is an addictive chemical, which makes Youngsters and Teenagers smoke. A teenager when asked that why do you smoke, he replies that cigarette offers a quick and reliable way to boost your outlook, relieve stress and unwind.
A study has revealed that around 20 % of students are addicted to smoking and increasing day by day. So, it might have risen up to 25%. That means if we say that a thousand students are studying in a university, then two hundred and fifty students are addicted to smoking or smoke daily at any cost. Steps, like banning hookah parlours in the city and increasing the price of cigarettes, have also failed to stop smokers from smoking.
COLLEGE GIRLS FROM MUMBAI SMOKE MORE THAN THOSE LIVING IN THE SUBURBS
According to a study conducted by Cancer Patient Aid Association (CPAA), college girls from Mumbai smoke more than Suburbs. The two reasons given by girls for smoking were –
1. They Smoke to Lose Weight
Isn’t it a kind of joke! Does smoking really Lose weight? The answer is Yes, smoking losses weight but on the cost of precious human organs. Smoking causes some diseases like Lung cancer or COPD which made them lose weight. So it is advised not to adopt smoking for losing weight. Start gyming, dieting, walking instead of smoking to lose weight.
2. They Think Smoking is a Stress Buster
Smoking might reduce your stress but for a short period of time. Some cigarettes have a drug which makes your brain to stop thinking, but till when, for a short period of time say three to four hours. After that you will be in a normal stage, then they consume another cigarette and slowly -slowly became addicted to cigarettes. A cigarette isn’t an option of stress reveling, they can do Yoga, Gardening, Dancing to remove stress from there lives.
