IMPORTANCE OF DIWALI IN SIKHISM
The Festival of Light “Diwali” is considered as the biggest festival in India for people following Hinduism or Hindus and Diwali is also important for Sikhs as well because on the day of Diwali in 1577 “Foundation of Golden Place” took place. It’s believed and said that on the day when the foundation of Golden Place took place, Hindus were celebrating their festival of lights, Diwali and Hindus lights up the Golden temple as well with Diyas and Candles.
This temple is made up of Gold and one of the most important pilgrimage site of Sikhism located in Amritsar, Punjab. The temple is surrounded by Water from four sides. There is a type of pool or Sarovar which was built by Guru Ram Das in 1577. This Gurudawara is World’s Largest Gurudwara and people following Sikhism visit this beautiful place from all over the world. Another name of this temple is Harmandir Sahib or Darbar Sahib. Everyone is treated equally here. No one is rich or poor in front of God.
THE HOLY BOOK “GRANTH”
There holy book Guru Granth Sahib. This book consists of preachings taught by the Teachers or Gurus of Sikhism religion. People believes that this book connects them directly with there God or Guru. Harminder Sahib is an open place for all men and women, Hindu or Muslim or Christian or Sikhs.
WHATS UNIQUE INSIDE GURUDWARA?
It is believed that this is the Place of God or the Abode of God. And due to this, the Sikhs here proves that Humanity still lies in World. Even a criminal if enters the Gurudwara then even law can’t force him to move out because in front of God no law, no rule, nothing matters.
FOUNDATION OF GOLDEN TEMPLE
The founder of Golden Temple was “GURU AMAR DAS”. The man who made Sarovar around Golden Temple. After his death, the construction was carried forward by his son and Fifth Guru of Sikhism “Guru Arjan Ji”. He requested a Muslim Pir of Lahore to lay Temple’s foundation stone. However, the construction didn’t over till the death of Guru Arjan Ji and was carried forward by “Guru Hargobind Das Ji ” son of Guru Arjan and Grandson of Guru Amar Das.
When the Temple was constructed it wasn’t made of Gold from the starting but in 1830 Maharaja Ranjit Singh, one of the strongest and intelligent King of India, who defeated Arabs biggest Union donated Gold to make this Holy place to be known as Golden Place.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh wants to unite whole India along with Punjab to become one unit and he makes this place of Gold after the formation of Khalsa Community.
