An engineering student, whether of C.S. or M.E. or even of Civil Branch, gets to hear a word called “GATE EXAM” as soon as he/she enters the college! Being one of the most popular exams in the country, the exam of GATE has got a lot of benefits, more than you can think after reading the heading!

But before knowing the advantages of this exam, let us know what’s this GATE examination?

Well, GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, an exam conducted co-operatively by IISc(Indian Institute of Science) and the seven IITs of the country. Started in the year 1984, the exam serves as a compulsory attempt at getting high profile jobs in various sectors. Conducted usually once every year in the month of February, it got 787,148 annual number of test takers in the year 2016, Also the GATE score of a candidate is enough to reflect the type of studies he/she has done during their college days. This year the GATE exam is being conducted by IIT Madras on the dates 2, 3, 9 and 10 February 2019.

There are some of the eligibility criteria that are necessary for you to take part in the GATE Examination.

  • AGE: No limit
  • Nationality: The applicant should be a citizen of India is the must. However, candidates of Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates are also eligible for the examination.
  • Educational Qualification: All the applicants should have completed or must be in the final year of Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology(B.E./B. Tech) or Post-Graduate (M.Sc) degree holder in any relevant science subject.

Various PUBLIC SECTOR UNDERTAKING(PSU) such as NTPC,ONGC,NHPC,IOCL,GAIL,PGCIL,CONCOR,BHEL,BEL,MECON,DDA,BPCL,HPCL,HECL and many others, have opened special entries for the GATE qualified candidates. By the year 2013, these listed companies have recruited various trainees for a high-salary earning jobs.

A scholarship, likely to be Rs 11800/- per month is awarded to the candidates directly from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to the candidates attaining a good GATE rank.
